The High Sheriff of Worcester’s Special celebration

Many thanks to the High Sheriff, Mrs Louise Hewett, for inviting ASPIE to her Awards Event at the Henry Sandon Gallery on Thursday 30th November. It was a special occasion and we learned so much about the work of individuals from various organisations in Worcestershire. Sam and Dale were nominated to receive the High Sheriff’s Award for the contribution they make to ASPIE. I was delighted to be there with them and proud to see them receive their Awards from Louise. Sam and Dale have brought a new energy and enthusiasm to ASPIE.  Sam is our Welfare Officer and they both manage ASPIE AVENGERS FC.  With 20+ attending training on a Wednesday night, Sam and Dale have formed a second team for less experienced players who don’t always get to represent us in the Sandwell Premier Inclusion League and The 3 Counties Ability Counts League. Friendlies have been played with other local pan disability clubs in Droitwich (where every player was presented by the Mayor of Droitwich), Kidderminster and Evesham.  As teachers and coaches, experienced in dealing with a wide range of abilities, both Sam and Dale spend time with the players and with other ASPIE members, extending activities to a wide range of games, poker, chess etc, plus quizzes and pool tournaments all of which encourage engagement and rebuild confidence, self-worth and motivation.  They are very well-liked and respected and are excellent role models, always available to give time and support to individuals, inside and outside ASPIE, which is invaluable when many members do not have a  father figure or male influence in their lives.
